BRAD PITT has explained why, after a 12-year relationship, he and Angelina Jolie decided to tie the knot last month.
The actor, 50, who married Ange, 39, in an intimate secret ceremony in Château Miraval, France, at the end of August, said he felt the time was right to “slow down” and maximise the time spent with their six children before they leave home.
“I wouldn’t say [marriage is] just a title. There’s more to it than that,” said Brad.
“I’ve been slowing down for a while now. Truthfully I do want to spend more time with my kids before they’re grown up and gone.”
In 2006, Brad told Esquire magazine he and Ange would “consider tying the knot when everyone else in the country who wants to be married is legally able”.
After seemingly softening his stance the Moneyball actor is now very content with his personal life.
But when asked if he is happy, he told GQ magazine: “I’ve always believed happiness is overrated, you know? It’s those difficult times that inform the next wonderful time and it’s a series of trade-offs.”
He also branded himself as “miserable” compared with his friend George Clooney, from whose recent starstudded wedding to Amal Alamuddin he and Angelina were notably absent.
This led George to describe Brad as “unreachable’’.
