Joseph Tamale Mirundi, a well-known political analyst, journalist, and author, passed away on August 13, 2024, at St. Mary’s Hospital Kisubi.
He was admitted for weeks due to lung complications before succumbing to his illness.
Born in 1964 in Rakai District, Mirundi left a lasting legacy through his sharp commentary and deep understanding of Ugandan politics.
Mirundi is perhaps best remembered for his 12-year tenure as the presidential press secretary, during which he became a notable figure for his strong defense of government policies.
In 2009, he supported the government’s decision during protests over the Kabaka’s denied visit to Kayunga, a move that further established his stance on national issues.
Beyond his political career, Mirundi was a prolific author, penning numerous books that explored Uganda’s political landscape, governance, and media. Some of his notable works include:

Joseph Tamale Mirundi’s sharp wit and unapologetic stance on controversial issues earned him a reputation across various media platforms, including Radio 4, NBS TV, Top Radio, Beat FM, ABS TV, Impact FM, STV Uganda, Pearl FM, and Metro FM.
His contributions to Uganda’s political discourse and media landscape will continue to shape discussions for years to come.
