Over the years, Uganda’s movie industry has been struggling to match its counterparts like Nollywood, or Hollywood. Regardless of the fact that, numerous movies are being shot on the daily basis. Sadly, they are shelved. Some never live to see the light of day. Some never live to be premiered. Some are poorly shot with blurry pictures and limping, lackluster storylines. However, The BodaBoda Thieves is set to change that. Short by Donald Mugisha, who is commonly known as Deddac from the music industry and has since ventured into movies, The BodaBoda Thieves is an indigenous story that depicts what takes place here.

Donald Mugisha, aka Deddac, drags bags of experience in this. He is renowned for the 2005 blockbuster, Divisionz that starred Bobi Wine. The kid that starred in Divisionz, now fully grown, comes back in The BodaBoda Thieves and he is as talented as ever. The storyline is a relevant theme which makes it stand out of the pile of Ugandan movies that tend to copy and paste from Hollywood’s storylines and shooting guns and stuff. It is local. They use a local lingua. They use a local cast. Therein, the issues of unemployment, crimes and poverty are tackled. Shot is Kireka Stone Quarry, The BodaBoda Thieves premiered, recently, at the prestigious Berlin Festival, Germany. The movie is written by Deddac (Donald Mugisha) and James Talyer. It stars big shots in the movie industry that include: Benon Kibuuka, Michael Wawuyo Snr, Hassan ‘Spike’ Isingoma, ProssyRukundo, et al. Locally, The BodaBoda Thieves will premiere in the Easter weekend.
