Musician cum politician, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu aka Bobi Wine has declined the Uganda Revenue Authority’s recall for his brand-new armored motor vehicle.
It should be recalled last week that Bobi Wine paraded his brand-new Toyota Land Cruiser V8 Reg. No. UBJ 667F which he claims to be bulletproofed to the Inspector General of Government for tax evaluation.
However, it looks like the Uganda Revenue Authority didn’t accomplish its exercise as it has recalled for the monster ride, an order that Bobi Wine has turned-down.
Bobi Wine via his renowned legal team, ‘Wameli & Company Advocates and Solicitors’ has reflected on his objection to URA’s summon.
According to Bobi Wine and team, much as it is true that URA possesses the powers under section 236 (d) of the EAC Customs Management Act to “Examine” goods, it doesn’t hold automatic powers to re-examine goods which were in its custody, examined, assessed to tax, the tax fully paid and the goods released to the owner/tax payer.
URA’s decision to recall Bobi’s motor vehicle is not only arbitrary and without legal basis but it is also a threat to his right to property and privacy, among others.
They therefore demand that URA immediately withdraws its decision to recall the motor vehicle as long as such a decision is arbitrary and unsupported by any law.
