The 17th edition of the Cinema Eye Honors Awards unfolded in a lively ceremony on Friday, January 12, 2024, at the New York Academy of Medicine in East Harlem.
This distinguished event, founded in 2007 in New York City, recognizes outstanding achievements in documentary filmmaking.
Bobi Wine’s documentary, titled “Bobi Wine: The People’s President,” emerged as the recipient of the Audience Choice Award.
The documentary, which commenced filming in 2017, chronicles Bobi Wine’s transformative journey from a member of parliament to his bold pursuit of the presidency in 2020.
The Cinema Eye nominations, a testament to the documentary’s excellence, are meticulously chosen by three distinct nominating committees comprising documentary programmers, curators, film critics, and writers, as well as Cinema Eye alumni. The final voting process involves over 1,000 members from the documentary and filmmaking community.
