Ugandan multi-talent Robert Kyagulanyi, widely known as Bobi Wine, has earned a spot on the shortlist for the 96th Oscars Academy Awards in the Documentary Feature Film category. The film, titled “Bobi Wine: The People’s President,” explores the life and activism of the Ugandan politician, singer, and actor.
Bobi Wine shared his excitement on Twitter, expressing gratitude to his team, “Congratulations to team Bobi Wine The Peoples President for making the 96th Academy Awards Shortlist for Best Documentary Feature!” The tweet was posted on Friday, following the official announcement.
According to a statement released by the Academy, the nonfiction film, released in 2023 and directed by Moses Bwayo and Christopher Sharp, stood out among 167 eligible films. Out of these, fifteen will advance to compete for the prestigious award in the Documentary Feature Film category.
The voting process, which will commence in early January 2024, will span six days, with nominations set to be revealed at the end of January. The Oscars ceremony itself is scheduled to take place in Hollywood in March 2024 and will be broadcast live on ABC and in over 200 territories worldwide.
In a recent achievement, “Bobi Wine: The People’s President” was honored as the Best Feature Documentary of the Year at the 39th International Documentary Association (IDA) Documentary Awards.
