As the Ugandan Musician and Ghetto Gladiator Bobi Wine continues with his #SaveTheChildren Charity campaign, he has made a plea to the government to improve the lives of mid-wives in the country since they help the mothers of the nation in delivery.
In a statement, the Time Bomb infotainment singer revealed how his mother was a dedicated midwife who helped many women give birth to live babies. He then asked government to increase salaries of midwives and make sure that it is paid in time. Here is what he had to say.
“I have special love and respect for mid wives. Not only because my mother was one of the most dedicated midwives Mulago had that time but also because our wives’ and our new born babies’ lives depend on these mid wives during and after labour. It is such a shame that these midwives are paid peanuts and this same little salary is paid after a long wait. Demoralized as they are, am not surprised that they put down their tools and leave pregnant mothers awaiting their service groaning with labour pains in hospital. We will not prevent early child deaths if such simple problems like little or no salary at all are not solved. Dear Leaders, rationalize the budget. Reduce on tear gas and increase on oxygen in hospitals. Buy less guns and increase our mid wives salaries!#TusabaGovernmentEtuyambe! @SaveTheChildren”
The Musician and wife toured Nakaseke hospital recently in the same Save the children campaign. After the exercise, Barbie had this to say, “My sister Karuhanga was born at home because it was a Sunday and the only bus that could take mum to hospital was on a weekend holiday. We lost twin brothers because my mum couldn’t access regular antenatal care. Many children and 16 mothers still die everyday in Uganda today due to similar reasons. (PREVENTABLE REASONS). Is our health sector not growing at all? We need to stop these deaths. Many babies have been deprived of their future. It’s my calling to say that we need change! We women won’t die like Dogs! Am blowing the trumpet to stake holders, Uganda government, Potential donors, husbands to pregnant mothers and responsible bodies, we need to see a decline in these deaths! Let’s join hands: it’s me it’s you. Everyone is me.” Barbie Kyagulanyi.
Bobi concluded by saying that no child is born to die. We hope stakeholders take this information seriously.
However according to Peter a bigeyeug reader, all such issues should be channeled through the mid wives associations and not a musician. “This is a professional sector which has a way of resolving such issues.” he said.
