Musician Bobi Wine has today met with US Government officials to discuss Youth related issues. According to the “Situka” singer, they want to empower the youth for a better Uganda. He posted:
“The U.S. embassy in Kampala wants to know what Ugandan youth are thinking, and to empower our voices, knowing that 75%+ of Ugandans are under the age of 30.
This is what I learned today in a productive meeting with the U.S. Embassy Youth Working Group and other great Ugandan minds (like Ahmed of the Youth Development League, Eve of YALI, and lawyer/activist Andrew Karamaji).
We agreed that the biggest problem among Ugandan youth is a hopeless mindset, but we have more power than we think!
So, let me play my part by reminding you that the future of this country is in our hands! It is up to each of us to build the society we want, and to keep our leaders accountable. The U.S. Embassy promised to support us youth and said ‘you can hold our feet to the fire’, so let’s also hold them accountable for their part!”
