Of late, everything seems to have a Chinese quality to it. Well, I mean fake. Every product on the market seems to have a replica of less quality. It’s quite unthinkable why and how such products keep penetrating our market despite the hazardous effects. These fake products are far reaching in the economy that they cover virtually entirely everything. From our day-to-day basic necessities to ostentatious products.
Despite, a number of counter measures by the government to ensure counterfeit products don’t get into circulation, they still do. The perpetrators of such heinous acts seem to have a couple of tricks up their sleeves; they always find a way of beating the system.
Sadly, it’s usually the innocent that pay the ultimate price. These products are quite affordable compared to their counterparts, the genuine ones. Usually, the local populace sees them as a viable option because of their relatively cheap price.
Sometimes it’s out of ignorance that people buy these products without realizing their effects. I believe this was the case of one such young child who fell victim to the counterfeit drugs that are loose on the market.
This was brought to light, by one of our music celebrities―Bobi Wine, the self-proclaimed ghetto president, when he visited Mulago hospital for a malaria video shoot. What he saw left him dumbfounded.
In disbelief, he posted on his facebook timeline: “In mulago hospital children’s ward but it’s just unbelievable what fake and expired drugs can do to our children. God save Uganda.”
We certainly need a savior. Something needs to be done otherwise we still will be seeing more such innocent kids bedridden in Mulago or some other hospital around the country.
