His Excellency Bobi Wine is undoubtedly the poster boy of the ghetto. I mean, why not? He defied all odds pitted against him in the heart of poverty in the slums of Kamwokya to realize his hopes and dreams as a youngster to become one of the most recognizable pop acts on the music scene. For that matter, the ghetto youth idolize him and one mention of his name on the streets of Kamwokya make you realize the cult status he enjoys there.
To them, he is their voice. He is like their avenue to vent their issues and concerns and like the son of the soil; he has spoken for them on many occassions. He revels in their pain and suffering and always stands up for them in whatever way possible.
So this time again, Bobi Wine decided to run to studio and use his music artistry to full effect in a song he calls “TIME BOMB”.
In precisely four minutes of a melodious lecture, he vents his frustration into a microphone to highlight the issues of the common man like corruption and nepotism, the high electricity bills and also hit out at politicians. His voice speaks volumes about how the situation in Uganda has gone from bad to worse in the way he stresses his concern in the verses. You can tell a man who has been pushed to the wall and isn’t happy about it. He mirrors the problems of the ghetto people perfectly as he equates the situation in Uganda to a time bomb. Rightfully so, I think.
In textbook afro dancehall fashion, Bobi Wine,the lecturer educates us and still manages to give us a dancehall feel in the song lest the Edutainment theme he dwells on loses relevance.
The song blends message and melody to perfection. How he does it? We shall never know, but what we must appreciate is the depth in message Bobi Wine’s songs carry.
To me this is another Bobi Wine masterpiece. Well done president.
