Renowned Ugandan singer, politician, actor, and activist, Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, along with his wife Barbie Kyagulanyi, made a striking appearance at the prestigious 14th Governor Awards ceremony last night in Los Angeles, USA, showcasing their growing prominence on the global stage.
The Governor Awards is an event where honorary Oscars are presented to individuals for their exceptional contributions to the film industry.
The couple’s notable presence at the event follows the recognition of Bobi Wine’s documentary film, “Bobi Wine: The People’s President,” in the Documentary Feature Film category of the 96th Oscars Academy Awards.
The film, produced by National Geographic Documentary Films and directed by Moses Bwayo and Christopher, secured its position among one hundred and sixty-seven films, with only fifteen advancing to the final stage, as disclosed by the Academy.
The Documentary Branch members played a pivotal role in determining the shortlist and nominees, with the voting process scheduled to commence in early January 2024. The voting window is set to span six days, culminating in the announcement of nominations towards the end of January.
A statement from the Academy highlighted, “Nominations voting begins on Thursday, January 11, 2024, and concludes on Tuesday, January 16, 2024. Nominations for the 96th Academy Awards will be announced on Tuesday, January 23, 2024.“
As the anticipation builds, we extend our best wishes to Bobi Wine, hoping for success as he continues to elevate the Ugandan flag on the international stage.
The couple’s appearance at the Oscars nominations party adds another chapter to their already illustrious journey, marking a momentous achievement in the world of film and activism.
We wish the best to Bobi Wine in the awards as he keeps the Ugandan flag higher.
