Preparations for the highly anticipated Blue*3 Reunion Concert in 2024 are in full swing as former Ugandan female music group members Cindy Sanyu, Lillian Mbabazi, and Jackie Chandiru embark on rigorous rehearsals ahead of the event. The group, once celebrated as one of East and Central Africa’s premier girl bands, is poised to reunite after a hiatus of nearly 15 years since their disbandment.
Founded by esteemed Ugandan music and events producer Steve Jean, Blue*3 made headlines last month when they were spotted in the studio working on new projects, fueling speculation about a potential reunion. While rumors circulated, Cindy Sanyu clarified that the purpose of their studio sessions was to create fresh music as part of the promotional activities leading up to the reunion concert scheduled for next year.
Contrary to initial speculation, Cindy revealed that the trio will not be reuniting as a permanent group. Instead, each member will continue to pursue individual solo careers. However, they are committed to coming together for select performances that require the unique synergy of Blue*3 as a collective.
In a recently shared video on social media, Cindy, Lillian, and Jackie can be seen engaging in intensive rehearsals with the Maestro Band, underscoring their dedication to delivering a memorable performance for their fans as the concert dates draw near.
Blue*3 was formed in April 2004, emerging victorious in the Coca Cola Popstars TV show. Comprising original members Jackie Chandiru, Lillian Mbabazi, and Cinderella Sanyu (Cindy), the group achieved success with albums like “Hitaji” (2004) and “Burrn” (2007).
Their debut album, “Hitaji,” featured chart-topping singles such as “Hitaji,” “Frisky,” and the afrobeat sensation “Tomalaako.” The launch of “Hitaji” at the Lugogo Cricket Oval in December 2004 marked a pivotal moment for the group, drawing thousands of fans and earning them the Pearl of Africa Music Award for Video of the Year for the “Hitaji” music video.
Despite their initial success, internal dynamics led to Cindy Sanyu’s departure from the group, resulting in her replacement by Mya Baganda and a subsequent name change to Blu 3. The trio officially disbanded in 2008, citing internal disagreements as the catalyst for their separation.
As they gear up for the 2024 reunion concert, fans eagerly await the iconic trio’s return to the stage, reminiscing about the golden era of Blue*3.
