People say, when good things come, they come in such big quantities that one begins to wonder where they had been locked up all along. BigEye.ug seems to be in that moment of wonderment having received two awards for this year all recognizing it as the best entertainment website in Uganda.
Kadanke Youth awards took place on Saturday and BigEye.ug was represented by Stuart G-Khast who collected the award and gave the acceptance speech on the behalf of the team as other BigEye.ug team members looked on in joy. BigEye.ug was especially recognized for its great role in Social Media and Digital platforms. Kadanke is Uganda’s fastest growing youth brand specializing in youth Events.
In his speech, BigEye.ug’s Editorial and Strategy Director, Ian Ortega said and we quote;
“Wow Wow Wow, www.bigeye.ug did it once again. We have won the AWARD for Best Social Media site in Uganda at the #Kadanke youth award ceremony.
And as Psalms 13:6 says; “I will sing to the LORD because he has been good to me…”
Thanks for believing in us, thanks for acknowledging one more time and thanks for giving us that fuel to strive to even be better.
We were simple youths who set out to do something that would impact the nation. We knew no one when we started out, we started from zero. We just had the passion, we didn’t even know about awards or anything of that sort. We were simply focused on making people’s life more entertaining and trying to put a smile on people’s faces.
Yes, none of us was above 25 years. We were all so young, so energetic, so full of life. We say once again, that yes, it’s great to win awards but there’s much more to awards.
Awards are not an indicator that we have arrived, rather, awards are a signal from the people out there to say, “we expect more from you, you can be better than this, shoot beyond the stars.”
We shall never settle, we shall never feel contented. Let’s keep growing, let’s keep innovating.
To the best CEO, Brian, I love you
To the best Marketing Manager, Stuart, you are a star
To the greatest Editor, Edwin Junior, you rock
To all our great writers, you are the reason we exist…. we are what you write..
And to all the entire BigEye.ug family, thanks for making this possible.
And finally to Mum, I am glad you’ve always believed in every silly dream of mine….
Cheerio….”
Ian Ortega went ahead to quote the words of Steve Jobs in 2007 in which Jobs gave nuggets for success:
“People say you have to have a lot of passion for what you’re doing and it’s totally true. And the reason is because it’s so hard that if you don’t, any rational person would give up. It’s really hard. And you have to do it over a sustained period of time. So if you don’t love it, if you’re not having fun doing it, you don’t really love it, you’re going to give up. And that’s what happens to most people, actually. If you really look at the ones that ended up, you know, being “successful” in the eyes of society and the ones that didn’t, oftentimes, it’s the ones [who] were successful loved what they did so they could persevere, you know, when it got really tough. And the ones that didn’t love it quit because they’re sane, right? Who would want to put up with this stuff if you don’t love it?
So it’s a lot of hard work and it’s a lot of worrying constantly and if you don’t love it, you’re going to fail. So you’ve got to love it and you’ve got to have passion and I think that’s the high-order bit.
The second thing is, you’ve got to be a really good talent scout because no matter how smart you are, you need a team of great people and you’ve got to figure out how to size people up fairly quickly, make decisions without knowing people too well and hire them and, you know, see how you do and refine your intuition and be able to help, you know, build an organization that can eventually just, you know, build itself because you need great people around you.—Steve Jobs, 2007″
