The FUFA Big League 2015/2016 season kicks off on Thursday, 8th October, 2015 with six games in the Rwenzori group and one game in the Elgon group being played at the different stadiums across the country, at a time when the Azam Uganda Premier League has taken a fortnight break for international engagements.
As it kicks off, new history will be written in Uganda football when Faridah Bulega leads the technical beach of newly promoted side Wakiso United.
The Kampala Region Champions have hired the CAF ‘C’ class licence holder to lead their charges in the new campaign in a bid to fight for promotion to the topflight.
While speaking to www.fufa.co.ug, Wakiso United CEO Moses Tamale Bin Muhammad explained why Bulega had been chosen for the job.
“She has a brilliant CV and we have been following her performances at various clubs. We are confident we have brought a quality coach who will also change the image of the club and the game,” Tamale revealed.
Tamale also pledged 100% support for their new coach before adding that they a confident that she will get the job done.
“It is a building process and we are confident that Bulega will play her part in the success of this team as we push for a place in the top flight,” he added.
Having played football as a striker before, her knowledge about the game won’t be the question requiring answers but rather her technical abilities that will be put to the first test today when Wakiso United entertain Synergy in Wakiso district.
A woman managing a male side is one of the biggest surprises in Ugandan soccer, not just to the football fraternity but also to herself as a coach.
“I received a call from Moses but I never believed that a woman would be sought after for a job to handle a men’s team,” Bulega told the federation’s website.
Bulega’s coaching experience according to FUFA:
