Largely unknown as he is, Benjaah Edwards has some uniqueness in his songs which in turn makes him veer off the main path that the innumerable artistes tend to stroll. An artiste who was introduced on the market with his Aneno Rwot, Benjaah has released an equally good song titled Amari Yesu. Will it enjoy the much-needed airplay Aneno Rwot enjoyed? Perhaps, yes! In fact, it will, if pushed well because it has all it takes to dethrone the bubblegum that is our music.
The Afro-pop song, done in Luo, tends to go bonkers from the start, going to the races. I love the high tempo beat. As a tired notion, most gospel songs in Uganda tend to slow down into somewhat acoustic to stir feelings and strike cords and set a mood to talk to God, or something, but Amari Yesu defies that. It’s high tempo with which it runs works for me and, sure, it will work for its audience if it simmers. It is a good song. Good that even if you don’t understand the Luo dialect, at least you nod to it in appreciation, in acknowledgement. The instrumentation hits you hard and drags you to the floor. Good song!
