BARCELONA have confirmed that full-back Dani Alves will leave the club at the end of this season when his contract expires.
Alves was linked with a move away from Camp Nou during the summer transfer window with Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain mooted as potential destinations.
Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers was reported to be keeping tabs on the Brazilian’s situation due to doubts over Glen Johnson’s future at the club.
The Reds were rumoured to be considering a £5m bid for the right-back but instead signed Spanish youngster Javier Manquillo on a two-year loan.
However, they could reignite their interest next summer when Alves becomes a free agent.
Barcelona coach Luis Enrique confirmed today that the 31-year-old will leave at the end of the season after opting to fight for his place at the Catalan club this campaign.
“We are very happy that Dani Alves has stayed here [this season],” he said.
“Both sides have agreed that his contract will finish in 2015.”
Barcelona completed the signing of Douglas from Sao Paulo last week, who is seen as a long-term replacement.
