The winner of the inaugural Bamasaaba Heroes 2016 is set to receive, not only local recognition but will also receive a prestigious International Award called The Nelson Award, a certificate from MasterPeace and a cash prize.
Bamasaaba Heroes 2016 is an initiative by Mulembe Night UG forum that seeks to honor individuals making a difference in their communities in Masaba Land and beyond.
Just like Bamasaaba Heroes, The International Nelson Award is presented to a person who is recognized by their local or regional community for their work; a young man or woman who works to prevent armed conflict.
He or she is a change-maker: a role model for their community who dares to break silences and taboos; a peace-builder who’s always searching for common ground. They exhibit the qualities of an inspirational figure to their local community and help foster a culture of peace and acceptance through words and concrete acts while developing initiatives with a strong impact on social change.
The Nelson Award is a MasterPeace Global way of honoring Nelsons who believe in the transformative power of positivity and non-violent activities on a grass-root level.
MasterPeace is an UN award-winning grassroots peace movement currently in 40+ countries around the world, including Uganda recently.
MasterPeace works through the power of music, art, media, sport and dialogue to prevent new armed conflicts and help the world achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s)
Music above fighting, Dialogue above judgment, Bread above bombs, Creation above destruction. That’s MasterPeace.
“With a nomination process going on, on www.mulembeevents.com and a panel of judges, we will select the most interesting (effective and/or innovative) change-maker in Masaba Land who will win a bronze sculpture and a certificate,” says Jaq Deweyi, MasterPeace Uganda Club Leader.
The campaign began in September and will end when the award ceremony takes place on Friday, 2nd December 2016.
The sculpture (Nelson Award) is inspired by Nelson Mandela’s saying: “The glory in life lies not in never falling, but in rising, each time we fall.”
