Events promoter and State Minister for Youth and Children Affairs, Hon. Balaam Barugahara, has revealed that maize farming brings in more profits than organizing music and entertainment events.

Balaam, a well-known Ugandan businessman and longtime music events promoter, made the statement while speaking about his recent investment in agriculture.
He noted that despite years of success in the events business, farming—especially maize growing—has proven to be more financially rewarding.
“Maize farming is more profitable than events organizing,” Balaam said, emphasizing how the agriculture sector has great potential for youth employment and income generation.
Balaam has been active in Uganda’s entertainment industry for many years, organizing top concerts and events.

In 2024, he was appointed as the Minister of State for Youth and Children Affairs, following his strong and consistent support for the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party.
His comment is likely to inspire more young people to explore farming as a serious business, especially at a time when the government is promoting agriculture as a key sector for economic development.
