Bakiga Nation, an initiative geared towards promoting and celebrating the Kiga cultural heritage, returns this Sunday. Now in its 5th edition, it will be held at Hilltop Gardens – Naguru under the theme “Rukundo Egumeho”.
Speaking to the media, Owen Bigombe, the Team Leader Bakiga Nation, revealed that the event is not just about having fun, but is also a platform to raise funds to support different charity initiatives.
“Most of us (Bakiga) are now living in Kampala. So, we want to use this event as an avenue to celebrate and preserve our cultural values by inculcating them into the younger generation,” Bigombe said. “We will also use this year’s event to raise funds to support a school project in Rukungiri district.”
He also added that this year they have invited Batoro to celebrate with them.
The event which brings together Bakiga will feature artiste performances and there will be a serving of eats and drinks unique to the Bakiga like enturire. It is sponsored by Pepsi and Bell Lager.
Entrance is free.
