Azawi has accepted a public debate challenge from fellow artist Eddy Kenzo, following a recent back-and-forth sparked by her comments on the government and the music industry.

Kenzo had earlier expressed interest in engaging Azawi in a dialogue, accusing her of making biased and misinformed statements about the state of Uganda’s music scene and its interaction with political structures.
His remarks came in response to Azawi’s outspoken views, which have stirred considerable attention in the entertainment community.
In an interview on Galaxy FM, Azawi welcomed the debate with open arms, noting that she is glad Kenzo framed it as a public debate.
“He asked for a public debate and I accept the debate,” Azawi said. “What makes me happy in all this is that he called it a public debate, so I’m requesting the organisers to take us to the ghettos, where both of us started our journeys.”
She suggested hosting the debate in the communities of Nankulabye or Kasubi—areas known for their grassroots music influence and symbolic of both artists’ humble beginnings.
According to Azawi, such a setting would ensure the conversation remains grounded in the realities of the people they both aim to represent.
“I want people present because me and him, that’s our genesis—the people and the ghettos,” she emphasized. “I have my questions and he has his. I want him to tell me where he feels I’m misinforming the youths.”
