UPL

By James Robert Kayindi

Tanzanian pay Television Azam TV seems to have beaten South Africa’s biggest TV giants, SuperSport in a bid to sponsor the Uganda Premier League (UPL). It’s said that last month, the Tanzanian based pay television approached the Federation of Uganda Football Association (FUFA) in which they reached an agreement to sponsor the UPL.

Information reaching our desk indicates that Azam TV agreed to a deal with FUFA worth $400,000 (approximately Ushs 1billion) to sponsor the second phase of the UPL in their first season of the deal. According to reports coming in, Azam TV has already deposited half of the amount on the FUFA accounts and the reports also suggest that the remaining half will be tabled before 31st January 2015.

In the same agreement, it’s said that Azam TV will provide $800,000 for the next seasons coming forward. This money is meant to be shared amongst the UPL clubs, referees and the league legislators.
