After signing a $1.9million three and half year deal with the Federation of Uganda Football Association (FUFA) to sponsor Uganda’s elite league, Azam TV has given Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) Football Club a go ahead on their deal with rival pay TV Star-Times.
The two bodies recently signed a three year deal worth about 750million Uganda shillings in which Star-Times pay TV will be the shirt sponsor for the defending champions. The deal was unveiled about two weeks ago before Azam became the official sponsors of the Uganda Premier League.
“New Uganda Premier League broadcasts rights holders Azam TV have intimated they have no problem with KCCA shirt sponsorship deal with rivals Star Times,” reads an official statement on the club’s official website.
There have been fears that both companies (Azam TV and Star-Times TV) would have a clash of interests which would undermine the deal signed between KCCA and Star-times pay TV but this won’t be the case after the league sponsors gave a go ahead to the club with the deal.
“One of the many reasons we are here is to see clubs earn more money. The KCCA deal is one that brings money to the club and we have no problem with that,” Azam TV’s Chief Executive Officer Rhys Torrington said during the official launch of the FUFA Azam premier league at the Nile Hall, Serena Hotel in Kampala.
