Award-winning actress Lupita vows to boycott the Oscars

Lupita Nyong'o

Actress Lupita Nyong’o has joined a list of black Hollywood personalities who are going to boycott the Oscars this year.

In a long post on her Instagram page, Lupita expressed her disappointment for not being nominated this year.

“I’m disappointed by the lack of inclusion in this years’ Academy Awards nominations. It got me thinking about unconscious prejudice and what merits prestige in our culture. The awards should not dictate the terms of art in our modern society, but rather, be a diverse reflection of the best of what our art has to offer today. I stand with my peers who are calling for change in expanding the stories that are told and recognition of the people who tell them,” she posted.

Ironically, these are the same awards that put her on the world map as a Hollywood actress.
