Former events promoter and artist manager, Suudi Lukwago alias Suudiman believes that the lack of unity among artists in supporting the newly formed Uganda National Musicians Federation (UNMF) is due to a perceived lack of respect for its current leader Edirisa Musuuza also known as Eddy Kenzo.
During an interview with Bukedde TV, Suudiman argued that in order to lead a group of influential artists effectively, a leader must command respect and be someone they are willing to listen to.
He proposed that the only individual deserving of the UNMF leadership position is Joseph Mayanja, also known as Chameleone.
“The federation can succeed if it has a respected leader. The only person capable of fulfilling this role is Chameleone. Artists like Kenzo and other leaders on the commitee cannot unite all the other artists because they lack the universal respect required,” Suudiman stated.
Suudiman called upon Chameleone to step up and assume leadership responsibilities within the federation, in order to enhance its credibility and gain the trust of other artists. He emphasized the importance of unity in the industry.
“If Chameleone genuinely cares about this industry, he should get involved and take on roles within the federation, or else it may struggle to survive without him,” Suudiman remarked.
Since the inception of the federation earlier this year, Chameleone has chosen to distance himself from it and not actively participate.
In an interview at the beginning of June, the renowned artist behind the hit song “Badilisha” stated that he had opted to stay away from the federation to allow other artists the opportunity to take the lead, while he assumes a spectator role.
“I was nominated for the position of federation president, but I chose to abstain. I have dedicated many years of service to the music industry, and now I believe it is time for me to be served. I want to observe and see,” Chameleone explained.
