Arsenal eye up bid for Colombia World Cup star Quintero

Quintero

According to reports in Spain, Arsene Wenger is looking at the Colombian international, who played alongside new Gunners signing David Ospina at the World Cup.

Despite an abundance of attacking midfielders such as Santi Cazorla and Mesut Ozil in his squad, Wenger is thought to be weighing-up a £16m bid for Quintero.

The 21-year-old joined Portuguese giants Porto last summer after a year-long loan spell with Italian club Pescara but endured a stop-start season due to injury and managerial changes.

His impressive late season form earned him a place in Colombia’s World Cup squad for the finals in Brazil and he scored the decisive goal in a 2-1 win against Ivory Coast after coming on as a late substitute.

Arsenal have been surprisingly active in the early stages of the transfer window this summer.

The north London club pulled off the stunning coup of Alexis Sanchez from Barcelona for £35m while Ospina joined last week from Ligue 1 club Nice.

Quintero was linked with a move to Manchester United 18-months ago while he was on loan with Pescara.
