Arsenal are hopeful of fending off interest from Russian club Lokomotiv Moscow to sign Newcastle United’s Cheick Tiote.
The Ivory Coast midfielder looks destined to leave Tyneside this summer after instructing his agent to find him a new club, and the Daily Star says the Gunners are ahead in the race.
It’s claimed that Lokomotiv have seen an £8million offer turned down and while Newcastle want him to stay, they would be willing to do business at £14million.
The Russians are expected to return with a new offer, but Arsenal are set to make a bid of their own in the coming days, and believe it would be enough to get the deal done.
Arsenal are in the market for another holding midfielder summer, especially after Mikel Arteta was ruled out for at least two weeks, and Tiote has been a long-term target.
