CALL FOR NOMINATIONS: Participants in the SWAA academy (6 positions)
KESWA members are asked to nominate female, male or transgender sex workers to join a team who will be trained in the academy and will be expected to train their fellow sex workers in their respective groups.
KESWA participant will work with sex workers who have been trained as faculty members in India. A curriculum for the SWAA has been developed which is a pan-Africa resource that will provide training to build the capacity of sex worker led organisations to influence policy and programming and develop their own services.
SWAA participants will be trained for six days in Nairobi and will visit two demonstrations site HOYMAS and Bar Hostess. The participants will be drawn from different African countries.
These will be a learning experience with sharing of experiences, challenges and best practices with representatives from other countries. The participants must be able to participate in the six day workshop from ( 17th November to the 22nd 2014), where they will be trained as participants’ of the Academy and upon successful completion of the training they will be awarded certificates of competence.

About the Sex Worker Academy for Africa
SWAA aims to strengthen the sex workers’ rights movement across Africa, through building the capacity of sex worker led organization. SWAA is being developed as a collaboration between ASWA and APNSW.
The regional sex worker networks, through local partners; KESWA in Kenya, Ashodaya and VAMP in India. SWAA will be guided by an Advisory Group with sex workers.
About the KESWA SWAA participants
Participants in the SWAA require a high level of commitment to the African sex workers rights movement. The organization will cater for a daily allowance and transport reimbursement.
Participants must meet the following requirements; (Must Be )
1. Sex worker, with desire to build and strengthen the sex worker rights movement in Africa
2. Experienced in HIV prevention, treatment, care and support programmes for sex workers and/or advocacy for sex workers rights
3. Ability to communicate in English, both written and verbal.
4. Have access to Internet for regular email and skype communications and mobile phone access.
5. Have the support of the organization they are affiliated with, including time off when necessary.
