Anne Kansiime, Uganda’s beloved “Queen of Comedy,” was the first Ugandan content creator to surpass one million subscribers on YouTube, but how did she achieve it?

As she prepares for her Comedy Grill show today at Sheraton Gardens, Kansiime reflects on the journey that brought her here and the people she credits for her success.
“I thank Kenyans so much for seeing me because after they saw me, the world started seeing me,” Kansiime shared in a recent interview. She recalls the turning point in her career: performing at Kasarani Stadium in Kenya, which she describes as one of the biggest events of her life.
“People fainted that day. We fainted. Me and the performers — we just fainted! Students were overwhelmed, shouting… we were so excited. I’ll never forget that day,” she recounted, her voice filled with emotion.
While Kansiime initially entered stand-up comedy as an affordable way to promote herself, that Kenyan event was a defining moment. It was the first time she took her entire “Don’t Mess With Anne Kansiime” crew to perform outside Uganda — a bold step that paid off by propelling her into the international spotlight.
Today, as Kansiime celebrates her comedy career at the Comedy Grill show, she’s not just marking personal achievements but also honoring the fans, particularly in Kenya, who amplified her talent to the world.
