During a recent podcast, Ugandan comedian Anne Kansiime spoke about the unfair treatment of African content creators on social media platforms like TikTok.

She highlighted that these platforms benefit from African content but do not compensate the creators.
“African creators are bringing authentic, viral content to platforms like TikTok, so why aren’t they getting paid? If they can operate here, why can’t they pay?!” Kansiime said.

Many African creators have raised similar concerns, arguing that their content contributes to TikTok’s popularity, yet they do not receive financial rewards like creators in other regions.
Kansiime’s remarks have sparked discussions on whether social media companies should create payment arrangements for African content creators.
Some industry experts believe that regulations or policies may be needed to ensure fair treatment.
As TikTok continues to grow in Africa, the question remains: Will these platforms take steps to support African creators financially?
