Mashariki Mix stylist Annabel Onyango has scored another first. This time she is a guest judge on the all new Africa’s Next Top Model, put together by Nigerian supermodel Oluchi Orlandi, with Tyra Banks’ blessing of course.
Annabel, who left for Cape Town on Friday, 6 September, will be a guest judge on one episode, which she says will give that particular show very good appeal in and around the East of Africa.
This is a next step for Annabel, who was honoured to have won the first ever Stylist Award held in Kenya.
Annabel, who grew up between Cote D’Ivoire and Canada, is well known for her quirky but alluring fashion sense. Using herself as a model, the almost 30-year-old dons shorts, coat and bow tie; lace, scarf and animal print coat to near perfection.
She has that inner eye that sees through the surface to pick out distinct style and the ex-factor that all model scouts look for. However, this does not mean that the elements always make sense to the general public. The best way to know that her fashion sense is working is when your eyes keep going back to reanalyze the dressing.
The Mashariki Mix and Sauti Sol stylist tells us that this is an opportunity for her that authenticates the hard work she has been doing, and is an affirmation of her well-honed skill.
“I am blessed to be doing something I enjoy. It was not an easy start. I’ve always thought that a lot of Kenyans were very stylish but needed a little guidance. With more and more people interested in this kind of thing, the market has just been growing.”
Stay tuned to AfricaMagic, which will be bringing you Africa’s Next Top Model, once production is complete.
