Angry fans give Cranes’ players a taste of their wrath

Uganda-Cranes 1

By James Robert Kayindi

After the collapse of the “Uganda Cranes’ wall” on Wednesday last week in Morocco, the team returned home on Friday but unlike other returns, the Cranes were not given a warm welcome as the case has always been after international duty.

Angry fans waiting at the Entebbe international airport had no kind words for the Cranes’ lads after they ended the hope of Ugandans seeing their national team at the finals of the forthcoming Africa Cup of Nations that is due January 17th – 8th February 2015 in Equatorial Guinea.

The cold welcome followed the infamous 2-0 defeat of the Cranes by Guinea in Casablanca, Morocco. Reports indicate that players like goal keeper Robert Odongkara and Habibu Kavuma were forced to use other means of transport from the airport after the angry fans chased them out of the bus.

Some players like team captain Andrew Mwesigwa whose popularity among the football fraternity has fallen to almost zero were forced to disguise their identity as the angry fans demanded that they retire.

The furious fans hit the players’ bus with all sorts of things along Kibuye as the team made its way to the capital, Kampala.

However, the national team sponsors, Airtel subjected the team to a special treat at the Kampala Serena Hotel upon arrival.
