Andrew Mwesigwa cries out after not being named in the Cranes squad

Former Uganda Cranes Captain, Andrew Mwesigwa, who features for Vietnam V League side, Câu lạc bộ Hà Nội (Hà Nội F.C) feels perplexed at the moment after missing out on Coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic’s squad that will be facing Burkina Faso.

On Wednesday this week, the 47-year-old Serbian named a 30 man squad that will be preparing to take on the Stallions in a double header in the 2017 AFCON qualifiers without including Mwesigwa.

The towering defender last featured for the Cranes in a 2-0 loss to Guinea in the 2015 AFCON qualifiers in Marrakech, Morocco. In fact, in that game Andy Mwesigwa received matching orders from the referee for dragging down Guinea’s Idrissa Sylla in the area hence costing the team in the process.

“I am surprised. I have never announced my retirement from the national team and I am currently active at my club where I am part of a backline that has kept many clean sheets,” Mwesigwa recently revealed in a talk show on CSB FM as quoted by Kawowo.

With the local football governing body (FUFA) highly emphasizing the 2019 Cameroon Project, it really looks less likely that the former F.C Ordabasey defender will soon regain his spot at the national team, no wonder he also doesn’t agree with the project.

“I have my reservations on Project 2019. It should be first things first. We have a big chance this time round as we are topping the group after two games and who knows who we shall draw in the qualification for AFCON 2019! What if they are tougher opponents than what is at hand now?” He said.
