To win the Brand of the year award, the nominees had to not only have biggest numbers of fans and followers but also the highest levels of engagement, coupled with interesting campaigns, well thought out strategy and presence across different channels; from Facebook to YouTube, Instagram, Twitter and Google plusand a clear understanding of how to be a social brand and not just a brand that uses Social media.

According to Airtel Uganda Marketing Director, Mr. Prasoon Lal, “Airtel is happy to win the Brand of the Year Award. Through our various social media platforms, we have sought to get customer feedback and with this we have improved our customer care across all our social media channels and have continued to innovate products and campaigns that are targeted to our consumers to ensure that we improve their lives and their businesses by giving them the most affordable and reliable communication tools available in Uganda.”

Lal also congratulated the other nominated companies and thanked the Airtel subscribers for voting for the company. “Winning this award is testament to the fact that our customers appreciate the time and effort that we put in to develop campaigns. We thank our customers & the public for appreciating the brand and promise to deliver even more. ‘Together we can’,” he added.

The voting for the Social Media Awards was split 60/40 with 60 percent being the public vote and 40 percent being the judges’ vote. All votes were audited by an independent audit firm for a final tally.
