Last evening, Airtel Uganda hosted several of its Ugandan partners to an Iftar dinner at Hotel Africana in Kampala. The event which begun at 7:00pm started with prayers in a specially prepared room before the Iftar was served to the guests who included various dignitaries, businessmen and other invited guests and Airtel customers.

Welcoming the guests to the Iftar, Mr. V.G. Somasekhar, the Airtel Uganda Managing Director noted that Ramadan is a special time for the Muslim community in Uganda and across the globe.

“Traditionally, Iftar is one of the religious observances of Ramadan and is often done as a community, with people gathering to break their fast together,” noted Somasekhar.

“This is the reason we are gathered here today, as one community, with our subscribers, management and partners,” he added.

Throughout the month of Ramadhan, Airtel has come up with different initiatives to give back to their subscribers. Since the month started, the telco has been carrying out an extensive Corporate Social Responsibility campaign of giving. The campaign has seen Airtel Uganda staff visit over twenty regions across Uganda donating to the residents
foodstuffs to enable them prepare healthy Iftar meals for their families. Some of the districts that have benefitted from Ramadan donations include Kampala, Masaka, Mbale, Mbarara, Lira, Kamuli, Fortportal, Gulu, Iganga, Hoima, Jinja, Arua, Tororo, Kabale and many others.

In addition to the food stuffs, the company has launched a campaign where subscribers that recharge a minimum of 500/- through Airtel money & E-recharge will receive free 100MBs, 100SMS (Airtel to Airtel SMS) and 30Minutes (Airtel to Airtel calls). These minutes, MBs & SMS can be used between midnight & 6am daily and expire at 6am.
