Airtel Uganda, The Smartphone Network, has fulfilled a promise to build and handover a house to Jjajja Florence, an elderly lady from Kira who has been taking care of homeless children since the early 1980’s.

Jjajja Flora, whose story was featured on the premiering episode of Airtel’s ‘Together We Can’ TV Series, takes care of seventeen children who were dumped at her doorstep at a tender age by unknown women who shied away from their motherly responsibilities.

Over the years, she has faced many difficulties, lack of accommodation and adequate living space for the children at her Kireka-based home being the major one.

Airtel Uganda, through their 52-part TV show that aims at exploring a range of issues currently being faced by all Ugandans, including poverty, health, education and selfless service, visited Jjajja Flora, listened to her story and promised her a new house in addition to solutions to difficulties such as school fees, food and medical bills.

Speaking at the handover of the new house, Airtel Uganda Managing Director Mr. Tom Gutjahr said, “At Airtel, we are passionate about making a positive impact on the individuals and families in the communities in which we operate,” adding that the story of Jjajja Flora is not in isolation; there are many Ugandans doing so much to positively change the lives of other people and Airtel Uganda is out to find them and grant them one wish that will change their lives and enable them to continue helping others.
