Airtel Uganda, the fastest growing telecommunications company in Uganda, donated 20,000 bottles of water to the pilgrims at the Namugongo Martyrs’ Shrine during the 2015 Martyrs Day celebrations.
This initiative comes only a few weeks after the telecommunications company donated MAMA kits, basins and baby wrappers (lesus) to pregnant women at the Uganda – China Friendship Hospital in Naguru Kampala during a brief handover ceremony attended by the Airtel Uganda team led by the Managing Director, Mr. Tom Gutjahr alongside Mr. Christophe Soulet, the Airtel Africa Executive Director, Doctor Edward Naddumba the Director of the Uganda – China Friendship Hospital as well as community leaders.
While handing over a box of water at the Namugongo Martyrs’ Shrine, Mr. Rachkara Solomon, the Airtel Uganda Territory Sales Manager said “The people of Uganda have supported Airtel Uganda since it commenced operations in this country. Today, we give back to these very hospitable people who have travelled long distances to come to do their pilgrimage on this sacred day.”
“Airtel Uganda will always support Ugandans not only by providing reliable and affordable communications solutions but also by being part of the important events in their lives, such as this one,” he added.
Organized by the Gulu Diocese, the 2015 Martyrs’ Day celebrations attracted more than two million Christians from Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, Tanzania, Kenya, South Africa and other foreign countries such as the U.S., the U.K., Malawi, Angola and Ethiopia.
