Airtel Uganda’s Head of Branding and Communications, Remmie Kisakye Kakuru hands over cheque to Buganda officials.

As part of its five-year partnership with Buganda kingdom, Airtel Uganda has handed over a contribution of UGX 50,000,000/- towards the birthday celebrations of the Kabaka of Buganda, Ssabasajja Ronald Muwenda Mutebi.

The partnership with Buganda Kingdom supports four of its main annual activities including the Kabaka’s birthday celebrations, Kabaka Birthday Run, Kabaka coronation and Eid-El- Fitri. Ssaabasajja Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II will celebrate his 63rd birthday on Friday, April 13th 2018 at Villa Maria Catholic Parish in Buddu county. This year’s birthday celebration will also mark the Kabaka’s 25th coronation anniversary.

Addressing the media during the ceremony, Airtel Uganda’s Head of Branding and Communications, Remmie Kisakye Kakuru commented on the company’s proud association with the Kingdom. “Our relationship with Buganda Kingdom has strengthened over the years. And the reason for this is because we believe in what the Kingdom is trying to achieve- both for the people of Buganda and the rest of the country,” Kisakye said.

She pointed to the cause behind the concluded Kabaka birthday run as an example of what she called “…strategic alliances…”. Concluding her remarks, she said; “Proceeds from this year’s run will go towards creating awareness
on the prevention of sickle cell disease which affects several people in Uganda. We are therefore honored to be part of Buganda Kingdom’s initiatives because ultimately, the benefits from them extend to the community.”

Speaking at the event, the Kingdom’s 2nd Deputy Katikkiro and Minister for Education, Owek. Hajji Dr. Twaha Kigongo Kaawaase commended Airtel Uganda for maintaining its consistent backing of both Buganda Kingdom and more communities across the country. He pointed to the recently concluded Kabaka birthday run which attracted a mammoth crowd of over 40,000 participants.

“One of the key factors for the success of the Kingdom’s activities is the reinforcement which we receive from our partners. Airtel Uganda has been at the forefront of our support system, and they recently displayed this commitment by extending the length of this partnership. On behalf of Buganda Kingdom, I applaud and thank you for standing alongside us in our endeavors.” He said.
