Afro-Fusion comes to life during fourth edition of Blankets and Wine

[showmyads] Kampala, 30th September, 2013 – Despite a heavy down pour in Kampala, Afro fusion music lovers in Uganda yesterday turned up in their numbers at the Uganda Museum grounds to experience Burundian Afro-Fusion Maestro Kidum, rapper Navio and Janzi Band in the fourth edition of Blankets and Wine.

Set in a picnic style complete with a well set up stage, the music festival saw the audience enjoy what is experienced at international festivals, upcoming and renowned artists sharing the stage to give a spectacular performance of live contemporary Afro-fusion music.

Janzi Band started out the day’s performances with elaborate and gentle African tunes from their first album and the percussion drummer was a darling of the crowd displaying his mastery of the set. The saxophonists too did not disappoint capping their performance with a patriotic song ‘I am Ugandan’ to an applause from the audience.

Janzi Band’s performance was quickly followed by Uganda’s very own rapper Navio who gave a 40 minute live performance of his hit songs backed up by Janzi Band. With songs from his first album to recent club bangers Navio took the audience on a musical journey, performing songs like Trouble, Kata, Boss Vawo, and Ngalo.

And Kidum did not disappoint when he set on stage. Born in northern Burundi, Kidum’s love for music started way before other kids of his age could tell 6 from 9. At just 10 years, he started playing drums and by 12 he had joined an active band where he honed his skills for six years. Anyone watching him live or listening to his latest album can confirm this guy was born to make music.

[showmyads] Kidum took to the stage with his own band consisting of one drummist, a percussionist and two vocalists to compliment his incredible performance. He thrilled revelers with songs like his famous hit ‘Haturudi Nyuma’, a song that has the ability to spark love emotion in an instant. It’s a musical marvel he has collaborated with Uganda’s Juliana to produce.

Kidum’s performance was an incredible one and by far the most interactive we have seen at previous Blankets and Wine. Not only did he pull some of the crowd onto the stage and he also taught us a few of his legendary moves. Kidum did not forget to take us on a short yet memorable spiritual journey with a few of his songs like “Mungu Anaweza”    which moved the audience.

“This is a great time for Tusker Lite to show appreciation to our consumers, and to give back by way of showing them what Afro fusion music and live performances are all about,” says Harry Mwanje, Tusker Lite Brand Manager in Uganda.

Blankets and Wine is a quarterly, picnic style music festival that started last year and the event has grown steadily to one of the most highly anticipated music event in Kampala.
