Ugandan recording artist, singer-songwriter, composer and performer of Afro-soul and jazz music, Sandra Nankoma was formerly not that well known to most Ugandans, but that is a story that is behind us now, after the soulful musician bagged an AFRIMA award over the weekend in Accra, Ghana for best female artiste in Inspirational music.
Sandra released a brand new soulful album in February this year titled,” Ye’nze” which was a collection of songs talking about love, the daily struggles of survival ,stigma against dark skinned women, and poor political leadership in Uganda, inspiring many with the content of her album.
While many doubted her credibility to earn a nomination in the recently concluded AFRIMA awards, those who knew her unique style of music were confident in her nomination and she later proved the naysayers wrong when she scooped the accolade. She took to her twitter account to express her joy and gratitude.
“I’m speechless! Thank you @AFRIMAWARDS #5thAFRIMA #AFRIMA2018 for award in Best Female Artiste in African Inspirational Music, #Uganda I’m bringing a touch of gold back to my beloved Pearl .she wrote
Nankoma started her musical career at the 2013 Bayimba International Festival of the Arts at the Uganda National Theatre in Kampala, and has a few awards to her name. She is also an actress and professional photographer.
