Afrigo Band, one of the longest-lasting musical groups in the history of Uganda will headline the sixth edition of Blankets and Wine. The band is still to date the oldest and favorite local band offering Ugandans cultural flavored beats throughout the regions across East Africa. Afrigo will perform alongside Uganda’s best upcoming afro-pop musicians, Irene Ntale, Richy and Novelle Band.
Tusker Malt Lager, which has been at the forefront in promoting great African talent will be reaching out to their consumers through showcasing new talent and undiscovered old gems to the young consumers through the premier Afro-based music festival designed to showcase genres of Afro-fusion music.
Described as a the most recognized band in Uganda, Over the years, Afrigo Band has churned out hit after hit and have continued to dominate the airwaves and dance floors to this day. In its 38 years of existence, the band has released 21 albums.
Speaking during the unveiling, Tusker Malt Lager Brand Manager, Phoebe Nakabazzi said that there is a need to realize that the music listened to needs to impact the lives of people, shape their opinions, record their history, inform them on what is going on, voice their grievances and records thus our choice of Afrigo Band.
Added Phoebe, “One thing that makes Afrigo stand out is the fact that they have given the entire Ugandan music industry an identity, thereby, becoming ambassadors of the industry and also the fact that their music too tackles social issues, particularly poverty and the AIDS epidemic that is responsible for so much misery in Uganda”.
A quarterly, picnic style music festival, Blankets and Wine is sponsored by Tusker Malt Lager and other partners, and it provides a platform for Tusker Malt Lager to show appreciation to consumers by showing casing the rich African talent and in LIVE performances by a wide array of artists.
“This is a concept for Afro-fusion music lovers in Uganda where they are always encouraged to drive down to the venue with a Maasai shuka, blanket or kikoys, a picnic chair, some wine, a picnic basket and their preferred company then proceed to share in this music and lifestyle experience”, said Phoebe.
The sixth edition of Blankets and Wine Kampala will be held on Sunday, 6th July, 2014 at the Uganda Museum Grounds starting at 1:00pm. Advance tickets for the event will be selling at UGX 40,000. On the event day,revelers will pay with UGX 60,000 at the gate. Tickets are available at all Uganda Wines and Spirits Distributors retail stores.
In line with its support for responsible drinking, Tusker Malt Lager will be maintaining a strict ‘over 18 only’ policy for sale of alcohol.
