In the years since Maroon 5 shot to fame with their debut album, “Songs About Jane,” frontman Adam Levine has developed, shall we say, a reputation.
What’s more, the 35-year-old knows you probably think he’s a douchebag, but he’s not sure if he agrees with your assessment. The man who once said he was promiscuous because he just loves women so much, and likes to have his date get all dressed up so he can take her to McDonald’s as a sort of litmus test, opened up to GQ about his alleged douchiness.
“Would it be really easy to assume that I was a douchebag? Definitely. 100 percent. But that doesn’t mean that I am. Or maybe I am, I don’t know,” he told the magazine. “So I’m gonna get really intricately self-reflective right now and ask myself the hard questions, to find out, once and for all, definitively, whether or not I’m a douchebag.”
Levine’s reputation clearly isn’t something that’s escaped him, but he’s not above wishing that you thought otherwise.
“You know what the gist of this article is? Your opening line can be: ‘You don’t have to like me, but I’d prefer it if you did,” he said. “That’s kind of how I feel. I’m not the easiest person to love right off the bat, you know. If I knew everyone in the world, they would love me. Every single last fucking one of them.”
