ACCA Uganda (The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) announced that it will host the ACCA Eastern Africa Convention in Kampala from November 25 – 27, 2014.
The convention which will be held at the Speke Resort Munyonyo will draw participants from Kenya, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Rwanda, Sudan, Eritrea and other Sub – Saharan African Countries.
Themed “Eastern Africa – the next growth frontier”, the convention will be a major professional networking and learning event for ACCA members and the business leaders in this wide geographical region. Some of its main objectives are;
1. To facilitate the sharing of knowledge and best practice among business leaders and finance professionals.
2. To provide a forum for accountants to contribute to the policy debates and issues driving economic growth within the region.
3. To enable gainful business links and interaction between professional accountants and business entities across the region.
Speaking at the press briefing, the Head of ACCA Uganda, Beatrice Isagayite said that “the convention will provide our members as well as all attending finance and business professionals with an opportunity to discuss and reflect on the issues that will drive regional economic growth and capacity building. We have put together a rich program, with a great mix of speakers drawn from within and outside the Eastern Africa region, which we anticipate will be enriching and will give participants diverse perspectives.”
“This is critical at this stage when many sectors are looking to widen their regional footprint,” she added.
In the words of Japheth Katto, a Fellow of ACCA and an ACCA Council member, “I truly believe that accountants and finance professionals have a critical role to play in Africa’s growth. Sustainable economic development is all about delivering what ACCA calls public value – acting in the public interest, promoting ethical business and helping grow economies.”
“This convention will be a great way for us to discuss how public value resonates here in Eastern Africa but also across this Continent,” he added.
Paul Ankunda, the chairperson of the ACCA Uganda Members Network Panel agreed with Japheth. “To ACCA members, the convention not only provides us with a professional networking opportunity at a regional level but more importantly contributes to the Continuous Professional development which will keep our learning at par with the required global standards. We look forward to the diverse regional and global perspectives that will be brought to the convention,” he said.
The convention, to be held at the Speke Resort Munyonyowill also be graced by many important dignitaries led by Honorable Maria Kiwanuka, the Minister of Finance, Planning and Economic development who will be the Chief Guest. Also in attendance will be the ACCA Global president Mr. Anthony Harbinson, who will also be attending his first convention since his appointment in September 2014.
The Eastern Africa Members Convention will discuss a number of regional sectorial growth drivers including Entrepreneurship, the growth of capital markets, regional integration issues, technology as an enhancer of business, ethical business, the future of the Accountancy profession and of course Oil and Gas .
