For a person that awards people annually, you would think Abryanz is unmoved by awards. Apparently, that is not the case. “I did not know I could win a big award” he says “but am not overly shocked. It has been years of consistent hard work”
Abryanz has been in the fashion industry since birth, his mother was a tailor with a small clothing shop. But 10 years ago Brian decided to start out on his own, in a very undefined and then-despised fashion industry. “I had a dream of building a legacy that would impact every Ugandan in some way, but especially the young people,” he says. “It feels right receiving this honour after 10 years.”
From owning a successful Collection store, clothing line, and organising Africa’s largest red carpet fashion show, Abryanz Style and Fashion Awards, with it’s Fashionpreneurship summit. One is left wondering if it can get more iconic than it is for the young achiever.
It is almost impossible to receive a lifetime Iconic award at 31 years but the trail left by Abryanz in the previous few years may as well be defined as “almost impossible.” In the view of many young people, it is a well deserved honour, “This goes along way to affirm all the positive changes Abryanz has brought in Uganda’s fashion arena.” says Omar, a young fashion entrepreneur. This space can now be looked up on as a real career, a real job and a respectable industry.
In our conversation with him, Abryanz further tells us why this specific award holds so much water for him, “I have awarded people, I know what this award means and usually it is for old people, because it takes many years to do great things” he says. “I am very honored and humbled by the Buzz Teenies Awards, and everyone that has contributed to the making of Abryanz, whether it is by liking a post, buying our apparel, or sending me encouraging messages. Thank you all.”
