Abba Marcus, the eldest son of Jose Chameleone, has revealed his determination to give Ugandan music a distinct identity.

Taking to his X (formerly Twitter) account, the young artist expressed his dissatisfaction with the current state of the industry, emphasizing the lack of a unique sound that defines Uganda’s music on the global stage.
“I’m tired of Ugandan music not having a distinct identity… let’s go back to the roots,” Abba wrote, sparking discussions among his followers and music enthusiasts.
Unlike his father, who is celebrated for his contributions to Afrobeat and other genres, Abba Marcus has chosen a different path, pursuing a career in Hip Hop.
Now based in the United States, Abba’s exposure to diverse musical influences has likely shaped his vision for transforming Uganda’s music landscape.
Over the years, Ugandan music has been characterized by a variety of sounds, making it difficult to pinpoint a specific identity compared to other regions in Africa.
Abba’s call to “go back to the roots” suggests he plans to draw inspiration from Uganda’s rich cultural heritage to redefine the industry.
This announcement comes just weeks after Abba made headlines for sharing details about his father’s health struggles.
