A new Aaliyah biopic will explore the singer’s controversial relationship with R Kelly.
According to Page Six, an upcoming Lifetime movie will include details of her alleged secret marriage to the ‘Bump N’ Grind’ singer at the age of 15.
Although the pair denied the claims, a marriage certificate was revealed that falsely listed Aaliyah’s age as 18. The union was said to have been annulled by her parents.
The film, which stars Disney’s Zendaya, will document Aaliyah’s life from the age of 10, until her untimely death in a plane crash at the age of 22.
Executive producer on the show Debra Martin Chase said: “Aaliyah’s personal and professional relationship with R Kelly will be explored with care in the film as we set out to depict her life with the utmost respect.
“Above all else, it’s our hope to inspire an entirely new generation with her music and larger-than-life talent.”
Aaliyah’s family have reportedly vowed to stop production of the biopic, after Lifetime failed to contact them about the film.
