Do you remember Alex Mugasha, the latest beneficiary of the Next Media Services Training and Apprenticeship Program? Here’s a glimpse of what he shared with us on who he is, how Next Media Services identified him and how he is faring so far.

Q: Who Is Alex Mugasha?

A: Alex Mugasha is a young multi-talented Ugandan with an obviously huge passion for journalism despite his being a teacher trainee. Mugasha’s claim to social media was a viral clip he recorded of himself during the recent Makerere University strikes preparing “bushera” while imitating NBS Television news anchor, Samson Kasumba.

Q: How does Next Media Services Identify Mugasha?

A: I tagged quite a number of influential Next Media Services personalities, including CEO, Mr. Kin Kariisa, who liked my tweet. One thing led to another, I received a phone call from the company’s Chief People Officer, got invited to the company premises, took a tour with the PRO and a few days later, I signed a one-year training and apprenticeship contract with Uganda’s biggest multi-media company.

Q: When did you then start this program?

A: As it was stipulated in the letter of apprenticeship, on 9th December 2019, after my End of Semester exams at campus, I officially joined Next Media Services as a trainee. That morning, I woke up early and reported for my start. I was he was received by the Chief People Officer, Mr. Paul Lwanga. I was oriented through that week and then introduced to my workmates. It was on Monday 16th, December, 2019 that I was officially introduced to the Newsroom, which is set to be my area of operation for a couple of weeks before I head out to the field in January, 2020.

How I do in my training will determine my permanent employment at Next Media Services as per my terms of reference.

Q: This seems to be a great opportunity. We wish you the best. Final remarks for us?

A: It is a profound honour to be part of Uganda’s leading media group, Next Media Services, which will mentor, train and groom me in my passion. I am undoubtedly sure that this is my right and best new home.
