Finally, Jaqi Deweyi is a mother. The media personality and infertility advocate, who has in the past been quite open about her struggle with infertility, has given birth to a bouncing baby boy.
“We are so thrilled to finally have our sweet little angel in our arms,” The couple posted on their Facebook page. “It was a long journey here, but we wouldn’t change it for anything.”
Jaqi Deweyi and her husband, Enock Nsubuga, welcomed their bundle of joy on February 12, 2022. The couple’s son was conceived naturally after over 10 years of infertility.
The story of how Enock and Jaqi experienced infertility and struggled to have children has been documented in the media over the past decade.
Jaqi has worked to raise awareness of infertility, through her advocacy work with Before the Baby Initiative – helping raise awareness about infertility, hope for couples struggling to have children, and fighting stigma around infertility.
Infertility is a hidden, yet prevalent issue in Uganda and the world at large. According to statistics, infertility rates have increased by nearly 50% over the past 30 years. That change can be attributed to an increase in age and delay of childbearing, as well as an increase in underlying fertility issues.
Jaqi’s story is the ultimate fairytale ending for a woman who has spent her entire adult unmarried life of over 10 years fighting the stigma of infertility and advocating for other women going through similar experiences. While she’s done so publicly with grace and poise, no one can deny that it takes an incredible amount of courage to open up about such an intimate struggle—and in turn, become a beacon of hope for other women struggling to have children.
Congratulations to the couple!
