A Ka Dope, a platform for emerging musicians to showcase their craft, has announced a partnership with Universal Music Group, a global record label, in a move aimed at further elevating Ugandan talent.
The partnership was announced on Tuesday during the launch of their new season dubbed “One Night Only”.
Launching the 2020 edition, Afsa Umutesi, the Team Lead at a Ka Dope revealed that they have given stage to over 200 different Ugandan artistes in the past three years, but are now looking to offer even bigger opportunities for Ugandan musicians.
“A Ka Dope was started to give platform to underground artistes whose music was not getting played on radio as well as talented musicians who could not hold big concerts because they could not attract corporate sponsors.” Afsa Umutesi explained.
“We have since grown and realized that the platform we are offering is limited. Our goal now is to give a bigger platform and greater opportunities for Ugandan talent.” She added.
Sponsored by Uganda Waragi and Roke Telkom, the new season will feature seven different shows, each offering a unique and dynamic experience. It will open with Ykee Benda on April 17th.
Speaking during the launch, Uganda Waragi brand manager Agaba Tumusiime said, “At Uganda Waragi, we celebrate the vibrant Ugandan spirit and there is no better stage to express your vibrant Ugandan spirit than the A Ka Dope stage. I encourage all artistes to bring on their A-game and show the world how vibrant and amazing Ugandan talent is.”
The launch ceremony was capped with entertainment from the A Ka Dope band led by Essie, performing a mix of their original compositions and cover songs.
