Reading has from time memorial been attributed to better a child’s development.  Numerous studies have highlighted that reading helps with building literacy skills, fosters social interaction between children and adults, creates an imaginative world, and is a stable source of information throughout a child’s life.

Esther Birungi, a teacher and proprietor of the Children’s Book Club (CBC) – Kiwatule says: “Reading is important for children because it helps with building reasoning, language development, faster information processing, deeper understanding, develops empathy while building stronger relationships in life. I urge parents to purposefully encourage their children to read a book every week to develop stronger IQ’s (Intelligence Quotients) and emotional intelligence, especially in this digital era where their minds are extremely distracted by social media, games and entertainment on easily accessible gadgets.”

Birungi added that reading duration knows no age because the interest and speed of one’s reading goes beyond that, it’s a skill that a child has to nurture right at an early age. “It is possible to find a 4-year-old reading faster and better than a 10-year-old, because the former grasped the skill earlier than the latter. “

“It is also crucial to note that while children are reading, they burn up a lot of energy because of the high concentration levels required. I caution parents that as they encourage children to read, they also plan for breaks for them to rejuvenate by giving them a fruit, water or a dairy healthy snack such as Yoghurt, Flavoured milk or milk, that they can snack on during the reading breaks,” said Birungi.

Vincent Omoth, Marketing Manager Fresh Dairy noted that rejuvenating and hydrating children while they read is easy with Fresh Dairy’s flavoured milk, because we believe in giving consumers dairy products that elevate and delight their everyday living.  “Fresh Dairy’s flavoured milk is popular for its sleek and easy-to-hold trendy slim packs, being an on-the-go ready to drink snack easily taken using an attached straw, offering great refreshment anytime.”
