Chicken and Chips TV series

Chicken and Chips premiered its 16-episode first season on NTV on Sunday September 11th. The youth edutainment series focuses on relationships and combines music, journalism, puppetry and animation to create a fresh blend of purely Ugandan edutainment.

The show begins with Katwe Corner, an unscripted live discussion in Kampala about relationships and social issues that is acted out with puppets.

Chicken and Chips also includes Pop-up Video, in which trivia, humour and useful factoids “pop up” in your favourite Ugandan hit videos. Episode one featured music videos by H.E. Bobi Wine and Dr. Jose Chameleone.

Talk on the Town is another amusing dish, when people in the streets answer imaginative questions that reveal their love life secrets.

Chicken and Chips is hosted by a female puppet in the Ugandan studio. The character has been created by Muppet Show veteran puppeteers in New York and is voiced by Ugandan celebrity comedian Tindi, known from Fun Factory and KFM radio.

“Chicken and Chips tackles evergreen topics like love and relationships in a fresh way. It is produced locally on international quality,” explained the show’s producers at Media Innovation Lab. “Katwe Corner segments use audio recorded during real life discussions held in Kampala. This audio is then puppeted (performed) by artists of Nafasi Art Space in Dar es Salaam. Although the show includes many uniquely Ugandan references, we hope for it to appeal to young people across the region. The topic that is at heart of Chicken and Chips, relationships, is relevant to everyone no matter the nationality, ethnicity, religion, etc. We promise to keep the content valuable and entertaining. So, stay tuned!”

Chicken and Chips is half an hour long, weaving together animation, puppet scenes, music videos, interviews and performances to pack a lot of fun into one half hour every Sunday at 1:30pm on NTV.
